Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Ait Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate

In the morning, your first day of this 5 day tour from Marrakech begins as your driver meets you at your accommodation. You will start the drive into the High Atlas Mountains. You will cross the Tizi n’Tichka pass and visit the Berber village to see how the local people live in the mountains.

As you go down the mountains, the ground turns red and dry. You will visit Ait Ben Haddou, a very old village made of clay. It is a famous place because many movies, like Gladiator, were filmed there. You can walk through the small streets and see the old houses.

Next, you will take a short drive to Ouarzazate. This city is called the “Gateway to the Sahara.” It is well known for its large movie studios, where many international films are produced.

To end the day, you will stay in Ouarzazate for the night. This is a quiet place to rest before you travel deeper into the desert tomorrow.

After your breakfast, your second day begins with a visit to the beautiful Kasbah Taourirt. This is an old palace made of mud and straw with many small rooms. Then, you will leave the city and drive across the Ait Saoun mountains, where the road has many curves, and the rocks look very unique.

Next, you will drive through the Draa Valley, which is a very long valley filled with thousands of green palm trees and small Berber villages. You will also pass through the town of Alnif, where you will have free time for lunch. This town is very famous for finding old fossils in the ground.

In the afternoon, you will arrive at the Erg Chebbi dunes. You will ride a camel into the sand to watch a beautiful sunset. To end the day, you will stay in a desert camp with a traditional dinner and Berber music under the stars.

Today, we recommend waking up early for a magical sunrise over the high dunes. You can also enjoy sandboarding on the dunes before you have a delicious breakfast. Then, you will meet your driver to start your adventure by 4×4.

First, you will drive into the deep desert to visit a nomadic family. You will see how they live in their tents and share a cup of tea with them. You will also visit the old M’ifis mines, where people used to find minerals and fossils.

Next, you will drive on the famous Paris-Dakar Rally road. You will visit Khamlia village to listen to traditional Gnawa music and have a local Berber pizza for lunch.

In the afternoon, you will visit a museum of old cars. If there is water in the Dayet Srij lake, you can also see beautiful pink flamingos there. It is a very peaceful place to take photos.

To end the day, you will go to a Riad to rest and relax. After a full day of adventure, you can enjoy the quiet desert evening and prepare for your next journey tomorrow.

After breakfast at your riad, you will leave the golden dunes of Merzouga. Your first stop is the beautiful mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, which is a very important historical site. Then, you will visit the famous Rissani market to see locals trading spices, crafts, and livestock in a traditional atmosphere.

Next, you will travel to Tinghir to enjoy a famous panoramic viewpoint over the green palm groves. You will then arrive at the Todra Gorges, where the red rock walls are very high. You can take a walk along the river to enjoy the cool air and the amazing views of the tall cliffs.

In the afternoon, you will reach Boumalne Dades to see the unique “monkey fingers” rock formations. Your driver will then take you to your riad to rest and enjoy a delicious traditional dinner. It will be a very quiet night surrounded by green gardens and the beautiful red mountains.

On the final day of your 5 days from Marrakech to Merzouga desert, you will enjoy a peaceful breakfast in the Boumalne Dades. You will then travel through the Kalaat M’Gouna.
