Day 1: Tanger → Rif Mountains → Chefchaouen

Your journey begins in the beautiful city of Tangier in North Africa. After visiting the famous Caves of Hercules and the ancient Kasbah overlooking the sea, you will drive through the lush green Rif Mountains. This is a wonderful start to your Morocco itinerary 5 days, where you will enjoy the fresh air and beautiful natural landscapes before reaching your first stop.
Upon arrival in Chefchaouen, you can wander through its famous blue streets. You will enjoy seeing the “Ras El Maa” waterfall and walking through its quiet alleys, then taking a short hike up to the Spanish Mosque. From there, you will witness a magical sunset view over the blue houses, making it a perfect moment for your first evening.

After a quiet morning in the “Blue Pearl,” you will leave the mountains and travel toward Morocco’s ancient history. Your first stop is the ruins of Volubilis, a famous place protected by UNESCO. Here, you can walk through an old Roman city and see beautiful, colorful floor pictures called mosaics that are hundreds of years old. It is a great place to learn about how the Romans lived in North Africa.

Next, you will continue your trip to Meknes, one of Morocco’s four royal cities. You will see the giant Bab Mansour gate, which many people say is the most beautiful gate in the country. You can also visit the busy local markets nearby to see traditional crafts. This stop gives you a real feel for the history and grand walls of this old imperial city.

Finally, the day ends in Fes, the spiritual heart of Morocco. You will spend the night in a Riad (a traditional Moroccan house) inside the old city. Fes has the largest medieval streets in the world, and you will be surrounded by the amazing sights and sounds of this historic place. It is the perfect way to finish your day before resting for tomorrow.

Today is an exciting and long drive that shows you how diverse Morocco’s nature is. You will start by driving up into the Middle Atlas Mountains to visit Ifrane, which is known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” because of its clean streets and European-style houses. Nearby, you will stop in the cedar forests of Azrou, where you can see and feed the friendly wild Barbary macaques (monkeys) that live among the ancient trees.

As you continue south, the scenery changes from green forests to rocky mountains and then to the deep palm groves of the Ziz Valley. This valley is filled with thousands of palm trees and traditional mud-brick villages. It is a beautiful place for photos and a great preview of the desert landscape that appears on the horizon as you move toward the edge of the Sahara.

Finally, you will arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the massive golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. There, you will enjoy a camel ride to reach the camp, traveling deep into the desert while the sun sets. You will spend an unforgettable night in a desert camp, where you can enjoy a traditional dinner under the stars, listen to local music around the fire, and sleep in a comfortable tent in the quiet of the desert.

As part of your Morocco 5 day itinerary, you will start your morning with a magical and unforgettable moment: watching the sunrise in Merzouga. As the sun slowly rises, it paints the high sand dunes in stunning golden colors, a sight that fills the heart with peace. After this, you will enjoy a delicious breakfast at the desert camp, savoring the quiet of the Sahara one last time.

Next, you will travel to the city of Tinghir to visit the famous Todra Gorges. These are massive orange limestone cliffs that are very high, with a cool, clear river flowing at the bottom. It is truly an amazing place to walk and feel the greatness of nature as the towering rock walls rise above you on every side.

You will then continue your journey along the legendary “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” where you will see many ancient houses made of clay. Afterward, you will reach the Dades Valley, a beautiful green area surrounded by red mountains. It is famous for its unique rock shapes called “Monkey Fingers” because they look like giant stone hands rising from the ground. To end the day, you will drive up a famous winding mountain road for a great view of the valley before resting at your hotel at sunset.

You will start your final morning with a lovely breakfast while breathing in the fresh mountain air of the Dades Valley. It is a wonderful time to relax and look at the green gardens one last time before we head toward the famous “Red City.” Your first stop will be Ouarzazate, a charming city known as the door to the desert. Here, you can visit the Atlas Film Studios and see the incredible movie sets where famous films like Gladiator were made. It is truly a special experience to walk through these giant desert stages.

Next, you will visit the breathtaking village of Ait Ben Haddou. This ancient site is a UNESCO treasure and is built beautifully with red clay and straw. As you walk through its quiet, narrow paths, you will feel the spirit and history of the people who lived here. From the top of the hill, you can enjoy a stunning view of the river—the same view seen by millions in the show Game of Thrones. It is a perfect place to take some final, beautiful photos.

To finish your wonderful Morocco 5 day itinerary, you will travel over the majestic High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka pass. This road is the highest in North Africa and offers spectacular views of tiny Berber villages tucked away in the hills. As the sun begins to set, you will arrive in the vibrant city of Marrakech, marking the successful completion of your journey through the heart of Morocco.
